John Flynn includes two intriguing covers on Two Wolves. Kris Kristofferson wrote “Hall Of Angels”, a song inspired by the death of Eddie Rabbitt’s young son that Kristofferson never recorded himself, although he does contribute background vocals to this version. The other is “Pleasures Of The Harbor”, a well-known song by Phil Ochs, to whom Flynn has been compared. The rest of the disc features eloquent Flynn originals that cover a range of topics, including hypocrisy (“Put Your Freedom Where Your Mouth Is”), the ephemeral nature of life itself (“Blink”), and hope (the closing track “Trust The Rope”). “No More War” is a powerful anti-war anthem sung to a marching beat, while “Azizullah” and “Dover” deal with the fog of war and fallen soldiers, respectively. Every song on Two Wolves, which features such stellar musicians as Duke Levine and Larry Campbell, is distinctive and memorable.
