Album Review

Sarah Shook Is Back with More Kiss-My-Ass Country

Sarah Shook and the Disarmers - Years

Nice review, Grant. I look forward to hearing this one in its entirety. I’ll be seeing them at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte on Saturday night.

Enjoyed the review...the liberties you take with the English language are appreciated..."spouse-ical proximity" and "skillet upside your noggin" is colorful...a close friend lived with a rather volatile woman at one point many many years ago, and she did throw a Lodge cast iron skillet at him...she was cooking bacon at the time too...so it was a hot skillet with bacon grease...so these things do happen...

Liked the song you posted...Bloodshot has some fine artists...

I think I'd appreciate this album more if I was younger and maybe drunk(er).  As I age and lose friends through various forms of self-afflicted damage I find it harder and harder to enjoy and rejoice songs about self-destruction/drinking/fucking up.

Thank you, you are not alone. I would add that this 'I'm such a badass' theme is clearly more than worn out by Hank 3 and if you really are such, you don't have to and would never think to keep reminding folks of it.

I like Sarah, but I can't help but agree with you.  I follow her on instagram and what I see is disturbing to me.  She seems in a bad way like an accident waiting to happen.

I look forward to seeing Shook opening for Robbie Fulks in St. Louis next month. Interesting pairing; bad-ass country punker meets witty bluegrass folkster. I can't imagine a duet but you never know!

Yep...Robbie is capable of about anything so nothing would surprise me...a whole album of Michael Jackson covers...calling an album of entirely new songs his 'greatest hits" record...the lyircs on songs like "F*%^&$ This Town" or "The Scrapple Song"...being quoted about the type of music he plays  saying, "I can do anything I want because I'm not popular"...he's got as much of an edge as she does...you may get that duet...and it will be great if you do...

Yes Fulks is amazing & great sense of humor. One of my favorite things he's done is a parody (but brilliantly played) called "Fountains of Wayne Hotline." In it, a band is having trouble with a song in studio, so they call the hotline... where a studio "dude" tells him where to insert classic FOW riffs and tricks. Fulks actually sounds BETTER than Fountains of Wayne, a power-pop group I also love.

That's hilarious...Robbie is probably to smart for his own good...

I love Fountains of Wayne too...great band...

Never heard of her here in France, but shit, this lady is a real outlaw and kind of cynical hahah nice discovery and good review !
