Husband/wife duo Scot Sax and Suzie Brown chose a rather defiant title for their first outing as duo, but fortunately that stand-offish sentiment is nowhere to be found within. Given their individual histories — Brown as a cardiologist intent on saving lives, and Sax as the mainstay in two irresistibly infectious combos, Feel and Wanderlust — their penchant for purveying appeal comes naturally. Indeed, both can claim a long list of accomplishments; Sax has written hit songs for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and contributed to numerous film and TV scores, while Brown can boast albums of her own and a number of high profile award nominations along with a list of credits that include placements with Starbucks, the Gap and various other commercial concerns.
Consequently, Our Album Doesn’t Like You Either comes across as a genuinely affable effort flush with an easygoing ambiance that belies its otherwise arrogant title. The upbeat “C’Mon World,” the supple “Two Babies” and the rollicking “Good Everything” are the most unassuming entries found here, but the back porch appeal of “Just Wanna Live” and “Jury’s Still Out” affirm a certain down home demeanour purveyed overall. Likewise, the album’s final track, “Everybody’s Following Their Dreams,” ends the set with a steadfast determination that’s not only genuinely engaging, but further affirmation of the the fact that anyone who doesn’t like this album is obviously overlooking its charm. No worries, Scot and Suzie… you’ve given us lots to love.
