More Blood, More Tracks: An Update on Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series

"More Blood, More Tracks." It sounds like the title of a grindhouse movie that might feature hunting. However, it is the name of perhaps the most hotly anticipated box set so far in Bob Dylan's The Bootleg Series. That series began in 1991 and has now reached the 14th volume, which will be a six-disc collection of versions of the songs from Blood On the Tracks (1975).

Expecting Rain has been buzzing about the upcoming Bootleg all summer, but the set has been confirmed, with a release date of Nov. 2, in a press release from Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings. ISIS Magazine had let us know early on that "the bulk of the book notes are written by Jeff Slate." And No Depression contributor Harold Lepidus, @DylanExaminer over at Twitter, posted an initial track listing which was confirmed by the press release:

If You See Her, Say Hello

This is one to be anticipating with an elevated pulse and a touch of sweaty brow, friends.  The first track released from the album should let you know what is coming at you.  Via BobDylanVEVO, here's "If You See Her, Say Hello (Take 1)."

I would imagine the field day for this one will be Advanced Placement completists only. That there are 14 volumes - and a market for them - is remarkable.

Until today I’d never heard the phrase grindhouse movies and now I have the urge to watch the Abominable Dr. Phibes!

I thought I had purchased this set and then I realized I had simply hit repeat on the CD player and was listening to "Idiot Wind" over and over and over (to the same effect).

Suggestion to anyone tempted to buy this set: Purchase 6 discs from artists you've seen reviewed on No Depression.
