Let's be honest. There's plenty of music in the world about youthful energy and passionate lust. But what about the hard stuff that comes after that clears away? It used to be that country music was made for the hard truths of marriage and divorce, life and death, hope and disappointment. That may not be the case so much these days — at least not in mainstream country — but there's plenty of it available in the world of roots music. Exhibit A: Lori McKenna's new album, some excellent tunes from the great Chelle Rose, the latest from singer-songwriter Mark Erelli, and bluegrass family band tunes from O'Connor Band.
