San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass: Up Close & Personal

Jack Casady is a famous bass player, having been a member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna for many years. You might think people would know how to spell his name by now, but no...

I see it has been corrected.

Had been by the time I read it...really good pics here, and would have been a really enjoyable festival to attend...Amos tends to make me jealous when he writes about these festivals...lots of great artists at this one...

Always nice to hear from you, Jim. However, this week it is all Peter Dervin's words and photos, along with Holly Horn's photos. Off next Tuesday, but I'll be back on 11/7 with a report form Yep Roc 20 in Carrboro, NC.

That would be a great festival...everyone from Dexter Romweber to Mandolin Orange...eclectic label of artists...have a blast Amos...I will live vicariously through the pics and text...and didn't mean to slight Peter at all...just knew it came from following you...

Always a great festival.  You can see part of it here http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2017/webcast/?mrid=114093

Thank you for the link!

The King of California on the Big Banjo Stage with two "Out of Control" fans rockin it! Thanks for posting the pic and red bandana waves until next year!

I take it that you are one of the two. Thanks for reading, scrolling through he pics, and hope you are an avid fan of No Depression, all things Americana, all the time. Saw the King and Phil last Friday night, with Jimmie Dale sitting in, as part of Yep Roc 20. Those pics, and review, will be featured in the November 7 Lens column.

A fun report about a great festival with excellent pictures. Thanks to all those involved. I noticed that Gurf Morlix is looking like Leon Russell these days. It's been intersting following Lucas Nelson's career. I saw him in a small venue a couple of years ago and suspect he's playing much bigger venues these days. His new album is very polished and quite excellent with even background vocals by Lady Gaga. Who woulda thunk...

Thanks, Amos. Never expect to get to this one, but your writing and the selected pics give me a real sense of what I'm missing. - Ted
