Why Do Women's Music Memoirs Sell So Erratically?

Judy Collins' autobiography "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes" is a very revealing account from a previously somewhat reserved and private person. Her candid discussion about her substance abuse issues and also the details on her uninhibited sexual exploits are eye-opening and rather shocking from such a beloved world-class entertainer.  Reading it, I really felt that I had gotten to know her much more intimately than I had from her prior autobiographical writings. In the end, the book reinforced my affection for her both as a singer and as a woman who is not afraid to expose her flaws.
