Todd Snider and the Hard Working Americans

Not an official review, but Todd and his colleagues are a must see act.  They did 2 1/4 hours of rocking the house at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh last night.  I had not heard of the act until I read the venue's preview and the allmusic bio about the interesting way the band came together, the musical lineage of the members, and the change in roles for Todd

The band has one studio CD out and a live CD/DVD package.  Each member of the band is a stellar performer and the year and a half of touring has made the ensemble a tight act.  I had heard that this was one of the best roots rock bands around today but did not believe it until last night.  Their blues bottom based groove was infectious and had the packed house moving, even on the few slow songs.  Some of the songs would fit into the alt. country style.   One of the real treats was seeing how much each of the bandmembers picked up on the audience appreciation of the music.  Also, watching Todd was as entertaining as following Cocker, Springteen, or Jagger.

Here is a link to a similar performance in Chicago area

Since the music was somewhat loud I didn't catch all the lyrics but it did not matter-the groove was the main thing.
