"Weight of the World"

Western Centuries - Weight of the World

Produced by Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses, Weight of the World -- the debut album from Western Centuries (June 3, Free Dirt Records) -- introduces a group of roots music mavericks with influences ranging from early rhythm and blues all the way to straight up country. Western Centuries are helmed by songwriter Cahalen Morrison (best known for his previous work with roots duo Cahalen Morrison & Eli West), but Weight of the World also features originals from Seattle's Ethan Lawton and former Donna the Buffalo member Jim Miller. There’s plenty of country telecaster twang and witty turns-of-phrase, but Western Centuries elevate their neotraditional two-stepping tunes into transcendental, rootsy rock and roll-doused thinkpieces.
