Cooder, White and Skaggs Bring Church to the Birchmere

Ry Cooder at The Birchmere on April 6, 2016

Sounds like a great show...there was a comment on Easy Ed's latest column about Ricky Skaggs' political commentary at a recent show...so maybe the Scalia tribute isn't surprising, except that he would go there at all...as your last couple of paragraphs note, it seems incongruous with the music being made...

I saw David Lindley Sunday and I know he plays alot with Ry Cooder. It is hard to imagine Lindley on stage with Skaggs.

Ry Cooder too is very vocal about despising Republican politicians and must have hated Scalia. I wonder what sort of dicussions/arguments he and Scaggs are having between gigs.

I saw Lindley last spring, and he told 2 or 3 stories about Cooder...they are close...

I guess it goes back to that Pete Seeger line that Ed quoted talking about having to learn to talk to people you disagree with...as Dennis opined, it must make for some interesting conversations...I'm sure the music is great though...

The music is really great and it really works well. Cooder seems quite happy playing the old stuff and seems very comfortable on stage... the band in general seems to be having a ball Joe McSpadden
