The Replacements Don't Stink

The Replacements on May 9, 2015

This is great. I don't know any of these names. I'm away to check them out. Cheers.

You won't be disappointed Cara...one of the great American bands ever...the early records are equal parts rock, pop, and punk, and the bad attitude is front and center...the Back by Unpopular Demand likely references their many live debacles...I never saw them live, but they were legendary for being drunk all the time, sometimes too much to play, and biting the hand of every one who tried to "feed" them...they had a spot opening for Tom Petty among others...and they always screwed it up ...so that's fairly rock and roll I'd say.  But the song craft surpasses all of that...the records are great...Westerberg is a gifted song writer...

I did see Paul Westerberg solo (with a band) once about 15 years ago...he was about as good as it gets...the attitude was still intact in the music, but he's abusing himself much less these days, so he was downright civil to the audience and even did a couple of requests...based on the video posted here, I'd' say they are in fine form...

Yeah the songwriting and the attitude and the passion are what made this band great. Without great songwriting you've got nothing. And Westerberg was always a great songwriter.

Thanks for the post and the video...one of the best American bands ever...the way they carried on, it is a miracle any of them are left standing upright, so I am glad they put it back together just to show what they could have been...great set list too...sorry they didn't play "We're Coming Out", but it is hard to argue with the ones they did play...you made me wish I'd been there...
