P.F. Sloan on Beethoven and the Kingston Trio

On November 12, before I wrote this column, I asked P.F. Sloan some additional questions, and he responded in an email:

"Dear Gary: Am not well at this time...Will write when I am better...thanks, phil"

Philip Schlein -- P.F. Sloan -- was so gracious a few days ago, as gracious as when I first interviewed him many weeks before, and he said, "Thank you, Gary, for allowing me to look within for these answers."  I wasn't aware last week that his life was near the end, and that my follow-up questions would probably be his last interview. The world and the music community have lost a wondrous talent, a songwriter whose songs we will never forget and a man who relied on the power of love to combat one's personal troubles. Phil, you will be missed. Thank you for making this world a better place, and may your music and spirit live on forever.

Great piece on Phil, Gary!  I was touched when he said that Barry's albums were his greatest works as a producer. I sent a link to Barry tonight with my condolences. This is the kind of thing that two artists may never say directly to each other.....He saw the John Stewart edition of the KT. Very cool.  Sorry to see Phil go....just met him last summer.

Thanks Gary...This was so sudden.  Still a shock.  He meant so much to friends and fans.
