NO DEPRESSION LOGOS AND BADGES

QUARTERLY JOURNAL LAUNCH

PRESS RELEASE

NO DEPRESSION, THE JOURNAL OF ROOTS MUSIC, GOES QUARTERLY; OFFERS SUBSCRIPTIONS

April 11, 2016

After a successful return to print in Fall 2015, No Depression, the journal of roots music, will launch quarterly publication starting with the Spring 2016 issue, available for preorder now and shipping May 2.

With beautiful artwork by The Waco Brothers’ Jon Langford on the cover, the Spring 2016 journal – whose theme is Roots & Branches – features long-form stories on David Grisman, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Robert Burns (yes THAT Robert Burns), the harmonica and more. You’ll also find shorter features on Pokey LaFarge, Dori Freeman, Mavis Staples and music out of Oklahoma, along with original illustrations and photography related to roots music. What you won’t find is advertising: our 156-page Spring 2016 issue is ad-free, printed on 100-percent recycled paper and features stories that won’t be available online. See a sample here.

For the first time since 2008, we will offer subscriptions that ensure readers save money and get first crack at our print-only journal content. Single copies and subscriptions are available at nodepression.com/subscribe, with single copies also sold at select independent bookstores and music stores for $22. Subscribers will get four issues of ND for $68 ($20 off the cover price) until May 1, when the price goes up to $76.

For more information or interviews about the No Depression Spring 2016 issue or the current state of the roots music scene (that’s alt-country, Americana, folk, bluegrass, independent country and rock and more), please contact ND Editor Kim Ruehl or Publisher Chris Wadsworth:

PRESS RELEASE SUMMARY

No Depression Returning to Roots with New Print Publication

Kickstarter campaign to support No Depression Magazine 2015 begins this week

May 11, 2015

We’re all about celebrating roots at No Depression: since the magazine’s founding in 1995, we’ve aimed the spotlight at both old and new roots music, bringing together voices of professional critics and regular listeners, as well as the artists themselves.

But, since 2008, those voices have lived solely online (nodepression.com). This year, which happens to be No Depression’s 20th anniversary, we’ve decided to return to our own roots – and to print. We’re excited to announce No Depression Magazine 2015, the first of an annual series of premium publications that will offer the best in articles, photos and artwork related to roots music – including Americana, bluegrass, folk and much more. What it will not feature is advertising.

So we’re funding the magazine in part through a Kickstarter campaign available at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nodepression/no-depression-magazine-2015. Between May 12 and July 3, we hope to raise at least $40,000 to help us achieve our goal of publishing a premium magazine that readers will want to keep with their books, not next to the toilet.
