Vancouver-based indie folk collective The Fugitives are the brainchild of songwriters Adrian Glynn, and Brendan McLeod. The duo have followed the formula of taking on a music genre that is the current vogue and combining it with smart songwriting, stellar musicians and top flight production to create a sensational product and creative platform such as their predecessors; Steely Dan , Tears For Fears, Savage Garden, and Brooks and Dunn.
Their new album Everything Will Happen, will most likely be lumped in with the other neo folk groups of the said current vogue but with their unique Canadian perspective The Fugitives have a chance at setting themselves a part from the banging on pots and pans crowd.
The eleven song set has that mix of melancholy and optimism that is so provincial, delivered with clean ringing vocals and artful acoustic accompaniment.
Their band is a current rotating cast of supporters that includes violin-looping prodigy Hannah Epperson, multi-instrumentalist Steve Charles, and renowned actor Benjamin Elliot, alongside a host of multi-instrumentalists whose styles range from bluegrass to jazz.
Highlights among the tracks are the delightful sing along two beat stomp ”Bigger Than Luck,” that features a great little banjo solo, and playful out of tune piano. The easy Celtic waltz of the title track mixes new world wisdom and old country common sense. The haunting poetry of “My My,” with its tight droning vocal harmonies gives you chills with every listen.
