Cat Johnson

I'm a freelance writer focused on community, the commons, the freelance economy, and music.

I'm a regular contributor to Shareable and Good Times, the alt-weekly paper in Santa Cruz.

A lifelong musician, I love interviewing and writing about musicians—in particular, those that fall under the roots music umbrella. I also spend a few hours each weeking working at a local, independent record store, where I've been for 15 years, and yes, I collect vinyl.

On my own website, The Freelance Cat, I help freelancers get started and keep moving, with tips, resources and tools. My goal is to help emerging freelancers avoid some of the mistakes I made and get right to the part where they're getting paid to do what they love.

I also hang out on Twitter at @CatJohnson, Facebook at CatJohnsonFreelanceWriter, Instagram at @CatJohnsonLand, and Google+ at CatJohnsonWrites

I live in the Santa Cruz mountains with my partner and two cats.
