Cary Baker is founder and president of Conqueroo, a Los Angeles-based music publicity company whose clientele features Americana, roots, blues, powerpop and reissues. Among its clients are James McMurtry, the Mavericks, Kinky Friedman, Billy Joe Shaver, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Bobby Rush, Concord Music Group catalog, Omnivore Recordings and more. Prior to Conqueroo’s launch in 2004, Baker was VP of Publicity at six record companies including I.R.S. (where he worked press for six of R.E.M.’s formative albums), Capitol (Bonnie Raitt, Beastie Boys), Discovery (Finn Brothers), and Morgan Creek (Shelby Lynne), plus Music Row’s Ovation Records (home of the Kendalls).
