I have been interested in roots music for as long as I have a memory, so that goes back to the mid-'50s. I enjoyed the rock revolution in the late '50s and early '60s and my first music purchases as a young teenager were singles by Lonnie Mack, then surf bands, Motown, Brit Invasion, and blues. I started learning guitar in '65 after getting Kinks albums, played in bands by the summer of love, and through college in Southern California. I collected vinyl, taught guitar lessons, and jammed for years while I raised a family; started writing for internet music sites about 2007 doing music reviews, specializing in blues and rock, and writing for local outlets like the local newspaper and local monthly roots magazine San Diego Troubadour (staff writer since 2009). Play guitar and steel guitar off and on with friends in bar bands locally, but I am retired and enjoy just taking my time to enjoy music and life. Have a few thousand CDs and vinyl records, books and stacks of guitars-it's a hobby, and I don't feel guilty about it at all...
