Big Easy Walk
Happy Mardi Gras from Sol Driven Train! We hope you enjoy this song, “Big Easy Walk,” from our upcoming album Dance, due out March 17th, 2015. The song was written in New Orleans, on a walk from the Jazz and Heritage Festival fairgrounds to the Blue Nile on Frenchman Street. Sol Driven Train has made many trips to Louisiana, always enjoying the music, food, and hospitality of the people. The sights, sounds, and tastes of the crescent city have inspired countless artists over the year, and this song is a “thank you” to the flavorful muse. As a child, Joel lived in Baton Rouge and visited New Orleans with his family for Mardi Gras. “I was amazed at the spectacle of the Zulu parade, entranced by the brass bands on the street corners, and moved by the syncopated rhythms of the drum lines,” he reminisces. “To record this song, we brought in Charleston’s finest jazz trumpet player, Charlton Singleton, and cut it live and loose in Charleston Sound. Charleston and New Orleans share a lot of similarities in terms of food and music, and we wanted to pay tribute to our sister city.”
