OneMic: The Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally Band
This OneMic session showcases the "folkbilly" sound of The Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally Band.
With its seamless blend of original material and classic country gems, Baby Let’s Take the Long Way Home marks the beginning of a new journey for the Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally Band. Friends since 2009, Robinson and Nunally teamed up for a number of projects before falling in love. For their new album Baby Let’s Take the Long Way Home, they rustled up what became their dream team: pedal steel player Pete Grant (The Grateful Dead, Guy Clark), bass fiddle player Jim Kerwin (David Grisman, Red Allen), and percussionist Jon Arkin (Lee Konitz, Gene Perla). They bring joyful music infused with folk, bluegrass, Americana, roots, swing, jazz, and the blues. Whatever you call it, it’s original, well-done, and a pleasure to hear. Featuring 10 news songs (including “I’m Brilliant”) and two choice covers, Baby Let's Take the Long Way Home will arrive April 21 on Whippoorwill Arts. "The Bay Area band filmed this OneMic session in Studio B at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Because the room reminded me of the famous Sun Studios in Memphis, I put the mic in the middle of the room and asked the band to balance themselves without headphones. Within minutes we were recording and the two song session ended in less than three hours” - John Cuniberti
