Seattle Folk Festival Returns December 9-11
Hearth Music is proud to present the second annual Seattle Folk Festival. Held December 9-11, 2011 in the city of Seattle, the Festival aims to bring together roots and indie-roots musicians from around the Northwest and beyond in an intimate, indoor gathering. The festival’s expanded this year to three days, and multiple venues, like Columbia City Theater and Town Hall Seattle.
Here at Hearth Music, we listen to music seasonally. In the summer we listen to music with big, crashing beats, the kind we’d like to be bumping in a lowrider. In winter, the music slows down, and we go after the rich, organic tones of acoustic instruments. So for the Seattle Folk Festival, we’re bringing together artists from the Northwest’s rich indie-roots scene. This music reminds us of a dark, rainy Northwest winter, the kind where we look forward to trips to the overcast beach just to taste a different kind of air. We’re also presenting traditional artists via our festival theme this year: Appalachian Winter.
Check out the artists online and have a listen! We’ll be blogging a bit about some of the artists to come, like Bryan John Appleby, North Carolina banjo master Riley Baugus, Washington DC’s bluegrass maestro Frank Solivan, and more.
Some Seattle Folk Festival artists have been profiled before in No Depression, like Pharis & Jason Romero, Youth Rescue Mission, Kevin Murphy of the Moondoggies!
