File This Under “Awesome” – Chuck Ragan’s Latest Album & Touring Band Unite Old With New
Over the last decade, Florida’s Chuck Ragan, best known for fronting Florida punk rock superheroes “Hot Water Music” has not-so-quietly re-configured his songwriting abilities to a wider, more diverse audience than the sweat soaked punk rock clubs he came from. Years of honing his folk rock chops are paying off and not surprisingly coming full circle as evidenced by a recent invite to open major worldwide tour for rock and roll legends Social Distortion (whose 1990 Johnny Cash cover of “Ring Of Fire” more or less created the country punk sound).
But unlike the guitar/bass/drums world of punk rock music, Chuck Ragan’s current live band shows a nod to old school country music traditionalists. Featuring Chuck Ragan on acoustic guitar, upright bass player Joe Ginsberg, and the wildly animated fiddler Jon Gaunt, the folk rock trio has been knocking audiences dead night after night with favorable audience word of mouth from newly converted fans.
Many readers in the No Depression music community have seen Chuck Ragan perform solo over the last few years but the new trio lineup combined with new songs could very well likely represent a mass audience turning point for this rock and roll troubador.
