“Nathan Stanley Ent. presents Dr. Ralph Stanley and Nathan Stanley with Ben “Cooter” Jones.” This was printed on hundreds of tickets for the Ralph Stanley concert at the Carolina Theatre in Durham NC on 5/19/11. But clearly, the tickets should have read “NATHAN STANLEY!!! Oh, and Ralph Stanley, too”
Nathan Stanley, grandson of bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley, is enjoying riding the coattails of his grandfathers success. So much so that he felt it necessarily to perform an hour and a half opening set. From 7-8:30pm the 1/3 filled theatre was subjected to depressing renditions of “Long Black Veil”, “Soldier’s Grave” and any other song Nathan and his band could fumble through.
