Wakarusa 2011 Begins!

The stifling heat and humidity has found its way to the Ozarks, just in time for the 20,000-plus crowd to descend on Mulberry Mountain for Wakarusa 2011. Following a 14-hour, two-day journey from North Carolina, my buddy and I arrived to a campsite darkened by the night, but still plagued by oppressive humidity. Since my friend and I camp about once every five years, we struggled a bit in the construction of our tent, but had soon set up camp and cracked a few brews with some newfound revelers. And with that, our journey has begun. So far today, I’ve toured the vast festival site, sampled food from a few local vendors, and browsed the merchant tables (always an entertaining crew at music festivals). I’ve also loaded up on the water and snacks, gone through a copious amount of sunscreen, and sat down for a few minutes to chat with the lovely and talented Grace Potter (an article there forthcoming) whose band rocks the Main Stage later tonight.
