ROCKY VOTOLATO ANNOUNCES U.S. TOUR
W/ MATT POND + “SPARKLERS” VIDEO PREMIERE
“Sparklers,” a standout from Votolato’s most recent album True Devotion, is a bittersweet meditation on the impermanence of all things. The album itself is a passionate, stripped down, and mostly acoustic reflection on moments from Votolato’s current life. It has been widely acclaimed, receiving four stars from pop critics as diverse as MOJO (“subtly intense, sophisticated and innocent”) and AlternativePress (“nearly flawless”).
Votolato was born in rural Texas and raised in the Northwest indie scene (where he fronted the acclaimed Waxwing). Performing Songwriter called his Barsuk debut Makers “about as perfect an album as you can get,” and Rolling Stone noted that “Makers demonstrates [Votolato’s] nuanced command of the folk idiom.” The follow-up album The Brag & Cuss (which Spin called “his most graceful album” and Paste found “completely disarming”) saw him further exploring the folk and country music that shaped his early life.
