“Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout” delivers songs of faith
Compilation albums are usually a treat for the listener. When done correctly, they combine wonderful songs with some of the best artists and musicians in the business. “Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout” which was released on Nov. 16, showcases the songs of prolific songwriter Rick Lang. While Lang doesn’t appear on the project, country and bluegrass fans will familiar with many of the acts that lend their voices to his songs. Those artists include Marty Raybon (of Shenendoah), The Whites, Dave Adkins, Claire Lynch, Larry Cordle, Jerry Salley and others. The CD was produced by Jerry Salley, who was named IBMA Songwriter of the Year in 2018, on the new Billy Blue Records label.
Lang’s “Look For The Light” project was nominated for a GMA Dove Award and IBMA Award for Gospel Recorded Event of the Year in 2010. “Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout” features 12 of Lang’s songs including “I’ve Read The Book,””They Were Fishermen,” and “Gonna Sing, Gonna Shout.” Lang’s songs are great gospel songs that celebrate the promise that Christians will go to Heaven after they pass away and they will be able to reunite with lost loved ones. The title of this compilation sums up the mood of this CD. It’s very positive with a great message in each song. These songs are not overly preachy.
There are some great story songs here. “The Back of the Church” and “Henry Clayton Parker” are two of the gems on this CD. It’s difficult to pick a favorite on this collection.
