John Prine and his independent record label, Oh Boy Records, announced today that the 72-year-old singer will be forced to reschedule eight upcoming dates on his summer tour.
As they shared on Instagram, “In consultation with his doctors, John has been advised that he has an elevated risk for a stroke. He will have surgery this week to insert a stent which will remedy the issue. He looks forward to a full and speedy recovery.”
The message has also been shared on the recent Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee’s website and other social media accounts, and the label encourages fans to respect the family’s privacy at this time. Many fellow songwriters, including Margo Price, Courtney Marie Andrews, Kurt Vile, and John Paul White, as well as legions of fans, were quick to leave comments with well wishes, though.
