After another exciting weekend of gigging and rehearsal we are back at the grind! What is the grind you ask? Well, being an independant self-managed band means working much harder than your average big-named or signed band. It means you are constantly looking at the calendar to decide when and where to go next. It means you are cold calling venues and venue farming to figure out where to go next. It means you are constantly searching online to find new places on the web to go next. In a nutshell, it means you never know where you potentially may end up next. You must be dependant on each other in the band. There is no room for slacking or ‘dropping the ball,’ as it were. If you want to ‘make it’ you must make your own path to ’it.’
We had a fairly extensive band meeting yesterday going over all of the odds and ends of what needs to be done and where we are going. The most important, and what I think will be most beneficial in the long run, was when we discussed departmentalization of the band. It was the first time we really sat down as a collective and delegated permanent tasks to each band member. When you go out to see a band whether they be signed or unsigned, dependant or independant, there is probably much more going on under the surface than you realize. To be in a band that expects to make a living off of being in a band, you must make your band into a living.
Cody Beebe and The Crooks will be on the road this week to Pullman, WA. We play The Coug on Wednesday, October 6th at 9PM and the Hollingbery Fieldhouse on Saturday, October 9th around noon before the WSU Homecoming Football Game! We hope to see all of our Pullman friends and fans there!
