Pokey LaFarge’s new album, Rock Bottom Rhapsody (out today on New West Records), describes some pretty dark moments. The songs welled up at a time when LaFarge was battling some intense personal demons, even though it was only later that he could see what he was fighting, and that his coping tactics themselves were the enemy.
But leaning on friends and loved ones helped him navigate into a better frame of mind, one where he can be open about his struggles and take care of himself. And he does his best to take care of others in return. Now waiting out the pandemic in Austin, Texas, he’s sharing the songs of Rock Bottom Rhapsody with fans as best he can, and trying to use his time off the road productively and creatively.
As part of No Depression‘s Spotlight for this month, he created a video just for ND readers, below. Watch as he gives us a little tour of his desk (hello book! hello notebook! hello computer!), performs two songs from Rock Bottom Rhapsody, and gives us all a little pep talk for getting through these new dark times.
