Bruce Springsteen is in Toronto in the coming weeks for the premiere of a new documentary on the making of his LP Darkness On The Edge of Town, but already plans are underway for a home video release — alongside a long-awaited trawl through The Boss’ audio archives.
According to a press release, the reissue — entitled The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge of Town Story — will be a 3CD/3DVD package including a remastered version of Darkness, unreleased studio and live footage, an 80-page “notebook” and 21 previously unreleased songs. In total, the set will include six hours of footage, including a complete concert shot in Houston in 1978 and a 2009 performance of the full record, plus two hours of audio.
The documentary, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 14, will air on HBO on Oct. 7 before The Promise arrives in stores Nov. 16 as a CD/DVD and Blu-Ray package. Columbia Records will separately release the previously unreleased material simply as The Promise, as a two-disc or four-LP set.
