Neil Young’s new album has a title, release date and … lots of formats
Neil Young has announced the title and release date for his Daniel Lanois-produced album.
Le Noise will be available Sept. 28 as an LP, CD and iTunes download. Then in October or November, the record will be released on high-resolution Blu-Ray audio (similar to Young’s Archives project) and as an app for Apple’s iPhone and iPad mobile devices.
“Le Noise is complete. It is a solo record. Playbacks are happening now,” Young said in a post on his Facebook page. Young suggested that while the app will be free, tracks purchased through iTunes will show up within the app and “it gives you an interactive album cover.”
“Forgive my use of the word ‘album,'” Young added. “I am old school.”
Young’s fellow Canadian Lanois, who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident during the recording, told Rolling Stone the record was recorded in a Los Angeles mansion in spartan fashion. “We cut a couple of solo acoustic songs, but the rest is very electric,” Lanois told Rolling Stone. “There’s no band, but I got in there with my sonics. There’s nothing else out there like it.”
