The Triumph of Trombone Shorty, Crown Prince of NOLA horn funk.
Troy Andrews has come a long way in a very short time. Bursting out of New Orleans’ world famous Treme neighborhood, he and his band Orleans Avenue are well on their way to conquering every audience they meet. Mashing second line with metal, rock and funk, they steamroller over any doubters in the crowd. Normally staid folks are helplessly writhing as Troy coaxes increasingly frantic serpentine shrieks from his horns.
Tonight Troy played a benefit fundraiser for local school music programs. To a crowd of maybe 1500, he gave a performance as if in a stadium. Quoting everybody from Marvin Gaye “Lets Get it On”, The Guess Who “American Woman, to Violent Femmes “Blister in the Sun”, there is no holding back this onslaught of deeply felt ferocious music.

He and the supertight 6 piece are touring relentlessly on the back the newest release “Backatown“. Upcoming gigs in Brazil and high profile opening slots with Jeff Beck in Europe will only draw more fans to the flame. Serious fireworks will happen as well when he lands in Golden Gate Park for HSB 2010 on October 2. See. This. Band. Now.
