“Drawing upon a rich history of political song, a special multi-artist bill compered by and featuring Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, Spinal Tap) as well as Camille O’Sullivan, Neil Hannon, Tom Robinson, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson, Boris Grebenshikov, Jez Lowe, Emily Smith, Claribel Alegria and more perform(ed) a night of songs in the key of revolution and protest.” Oh, and since he hasn’t been too busy or anything, they added Richard Thompson to the bill, too. Again, time is at a premium around here, so I lead you to the gallery for a look at another massive show of talent and passion here at Meltdown. Anyone out there who was at the show and had a pen and paper to hand or their mind on details instead of composition and lighting, please weigh in!
One favorite moment? When Chaim Tennenbaum launched into his beautiful and heart felt (and re-written) version of American the Beautiful and cringed, “Oh God, I’ve turned into Pete Seeger.” Heim, that’s not a bad thing.
