Raised in Tarrytown, New York,[1] Bromberg attended Columbia University in the 1960s and studied guitar with Reverend Gary Davis during that period. He has played with many famous musicians, including Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Jorma Kaukonen, Jerry Garcia, Rusty Evans/The Deep and Bob Dylan, and co-wrote the song “The Holdup”, with former Beatle George Harrison, who played on Bromberg’s self-titled 1971 album.
Bromberg began releasing albums of his own in the early 1970s on Columbia Records. His seven-minute rendition of “Mr. Bojangles” from 1972’s Demon in Disguise, interspersed with tales about traveling with song author Jerry Jeff Walker, earned Bromberg progressive rock radio airplay. The riff from the song “Sharon,” on the same album, was sampled by the Beastie Boys for the song “Johnny Ryall” on their seminal album Paul’s Boutique.
Bromberg currently lives in Wilmington, Delaware, where he and his wife, artist Nancy Josephson, own an extensive violin sales and repair shop, with a partial subsidy from the City of Wilmington, Delaware.[2] He occasionally performs at Wilmington’s Grand Opera House. According to a local Wilmington news story in early 2008,[citation needed] his collection consists of 275 American violins and is the largest known collection in the United States.
Bromberg is proficient on fiddle, many styles of acoustic and electric guitar (to each of which he lends a highly individual voice), pedal steel guitar and dobro. David Lindley, Norman Blake, Emily Robison and Ricky Skaggs are among the small number of other major musicians with equal proficiency on three or more string instruments.
Bromberg released his first new studio album since 1990 with Try Me One More Time on 27 February 2007, on Appleseed Recordings. The disc includes Dylan’s “It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry” and Elizabeth Cotten’s “Shake Sugaree.” The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Traditional Folk Album at the 50th annual Grammy Awards in 2008.

Nancy Josephson (Angel Band – http://www.angelband.net)

Nancy Josephson has a long and varied musical pedigree. As a vocalist and bass player she did stints with the Buffalo Gals, David Bromberg Band, Arlo Guthrie, Peter Rowan and Fiddle Fever. Nancy was also a vocalist with the legendary Chicago Gospel Choir, The Annettes. After a long absence from the “official” music scene, she returns with both voice and attitude to anchor this extraordinary group.

A native of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Wes Corbett began classical piano at the age of four but was converted to the banjo during high school, studying with Dave Keenan, Bill Evans, Dennis Caplinger, and Seattle-based guitarist John Miller. For the past four years Wes has been composing and arranging original music for banjo and hammered dulcimer with Simon Chrisman, also a native of Bainbridge. They recorded an album with guitarist Jordan Tice, which was released on Patuxent in 2007. In the past several years Wes has appeared with numerous musicians and bands, including the David Grisman Quintet, the Mike Marshall and Darol Anger duo, Matt Glaser, and Crooked Still. Since relocating to Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts in the fall of 2006, he has opened for Tony Rice with Lincoln Meyers and String Alliance, and toured Internationally with the Biscuit Burners. Wes is currently touring with Boston based string band Joy Kills Sorrow and The Bee Eaters, featuring Simon Chrisman and Tristan and Tashina Clarridge.
