What? Really?
I love Exile — it has its important place in rock n roll history but the White Album??? come on! who cares if the 4 Beatles were in individual studios recording the tunes. The tunes are fabulous. There’s something about this phase in their career that produces this very interesting work. Each side holds such treasures ; and in addition, such memories for me. As I age, the tunes age like a fine wine, along with me (although my aging is not as fine). Exile has not done the same. I enjoy the rawness and love the vibe of Exile but in the end, it’s the compositons. The “Happiness is a Warm Gun” “I’m so Tired” “Blackbird” “I Will” “Don’t Pass me By””While My Guitar Gently Weeps” even “Honey Pie” and”Piggies”. But you know there’s also a darkness to the White Album – it becomes apparent when you talk to “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”/”Here comes the Sun” Beatles fans – they don’t get the White Album. Don’t get me wrong — I want this Exile reissue but in the end I guess it always goes back to Beatles v. Stones. One more tick mark for the Beatles I say..
