No Depression Sessions at AmericanaFest: Madeline Hawthorne

Montana-based Americana singer-songwriter Madeline Hawthorne graced us with three brand new songs during this year’s No Depression Sessions at AmericanaFest, shot at Jaan’s House in Nashville. Hawthorne was born and raised in classical music communities in New England, then in her teens relocated to the Rocky Mountain city of Bozeman, Montana, where she’s been crushing rootsy tunes ever since.
Joining Hawthorne were fellow mountain transplants Ace Engfer on bass and Taylor Sims on guitar. The trio treated us to two unreleased songs, “Night Ride,” and “Where Did I Go Wrong,” performed first and third respectively in this set.
The second song is Hawthorne’s recently released single “Neon Wasteland,” a lightly autobiographical story about a character feeling overwhelmed and out of place in Nashville. It was a beautiful opportunity for us to see Hawthorne united with her band, friends, and family during the session. Although the song’s character feels like a fish out of water, we got to see Hawthorne shine in full confidence with the home team in her corner.
