Shelby Lynne steered clear of Nashville for a couple decades, but the music pulled her back, and she’s got a new album to show for it.
Consequences of the Crown, produced by Lynne with Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town, Ashley Monroe, and Gena Johnson, will land Aug. 16 via Monument Records. Along with the album announcement, Lynne, who until her recent move to Nashville lived in California, made this statement:
“I am going where it feels right to take a step. Breathing. Feeling the power of this music I lived for a time, another chapter in my life. I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful to you for listening to my life. This is the moment. We all wear a crown of consequences.”
Among the guests contributing to the album are Waylon Payne, Jedd Hughes, Angaleena Presley, and Carter Faith.
Two songs from the album have already been released as singles: “Over and Over” and “But I Ain’t,” the latter of which builds on sounds from “Dreamsome,” a song from Lynne’s landmark 1999 album, I Am Shelby Lynne. An additional song, “Butterfly,” is coming this Friday.
I Am Shelby Lynne, which featured standout songs including “Gotta Get Back,” “Life Is Bad,” and “Leavin’,” was reissued earlier this year to mark its 25th anniversary, a move that returned the album to streaming platforms. Lynne won the Best New Artist Grammy after the releases of that album, her sixth LP.
Lynne recently announced a show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 26 in which she’ll perform music from the new album, as well as I Am Shelby Lynne in its entirety. Tickets are on sale now.
