No Depression Sessions at AMERICANAFEST 2024: Larkin Poe

Multi-instrumentalist sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell joined us at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge for their No Depression Session at AMERICANAFEST ’24. They sharing two songs from the forthcoming album Bloom, and two songs from their sixth studio album Blood Harmony, which earned them the GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Blues Album this year. Drummer and background vocalist Ben Satterlee, and bassist Tarka Layman rounded out their acoustic quartet.
Larkin Poe is one of the hardest touring bands out there, and the road polish shows instantly. I get the sense that there is no universe in which the Lovell sisters could slip out of the pocket they’re in. Both inhabit the center of every pitch, sometimes the edges if that’s what they intend. And also, damn, Ben! The vocal trio gives me goosebumps when Layman holds down the low end.
Please enjoy this performance, and stay tuned for more No Depression x AMERICANAFEST ’24 sessions in the pipeline. Special thanks to everybody who made this series happen: Julie Tan for her generous support and badass AEA ribbon mics, Joe Lewis for getting it off the ground, Amy Dee for creating the vibe, and Destiny McGregor at AMERICANAFEST for tying it all together.
