Bob Dylan-Christmas in the Heart (2009 CBS/Sony)
OK. OK. I get it now.
A drunk, who has just become hoarse by yelling at some girly whom he thinks is Bettie Page, walks into a bar that’s playing 1950’s Christmas instrumentals with some coocooing in the background and notices that no one seems aware that’s Christmas eve, so he, having once serenaded neighbors as part of a caroling octet and having had a solo in a high school production of “Camelot,” thinks he’s just arrived on the set of a movie he’s starring in and concludes that his role is to play a drunk who walks into a bar and has to get the barflies in the seasonal mood by singing the lead….. so he does.
And the final word he sings is “Amen” before stumbling back out into another indifferent night.
