Zee Avi spotlighted on YouTube today
Of all the artists slated for this year’s first ever No Depression Festival (July 11 at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Wash.), Zee Avi is likely, for most folks, the newest name. The 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Borneo gained traction when she started recording her songs on video and posting the performances on YouTube. When U.K.-based singer-songwriter Kris Rowley linked to her videos from his YouTube page, Avi’s fan base started growing exponentially. Among her devoted viewers was Raconteurs drummer Patrick Keeler. Long story short, six degrees of separation later, Avi was flying to Los Angeles to record her debut album. That self-titled disc drops today on Brushfire Records.
To commemorate the album’s release and the way Avi’s career got off the ground, YouTube is featuring four of her videos for the day. One is above. Head over to YouTube for the rest. For those of you who can’t make it out here to ND Fest this summer, perhaps you can catch her at Bonnaroo. More tour dates are available at ZeeAvi.com
