A Good Week for Rocking Out
This week, in new music, there’s a roaring new solo disc in the world from North Mississippi All-Star Luther Dickinson, which includes notable contributions from the Norman Sisters and Jason Isbell, among others. Grant Britt found it “impressive,” and his review tops our list for this week. Further down is “gritty,” “smoky,” and “soulful” Amelia White, whose new road-weary album stirred some emotions in reviewer Maeri Ferguson. Dr. Dog’s latest is “musically intelligent” and a new collection of covers of the great Blind Willie Johnson is “so powerful, it’s intimidating.” All told, it’s a good week to rock out and get your mind blown.
