Pastoral Passages
On the jukebox this week is a bit a blues, some protest music, and two records that sound like babbling brooks, shaking leaves, and everything that can be considered “pastoral.” As Wordsworth once said, “These fields were burthen’d when they came to me.” I’m not sure how that applies here, but “Michael” surely is a very long poem. Anyway, we’ve got a look at the Sadies’ newest disk, Tall Tall Trees and Rhiannon Giddens are celebrating movement of heart and mind with Freedays and Freedom Highway, respectively. And Elvis Bishop brings on the hip-shaking with his Big Fun Trio.
