St. Louis. MO youth music education program, “Strings Attached project,” has released its fourth collection of roots music standards entitled, “Rockabilly Rebellion.”
The Strings Attached project began in 2009 offering nonprofit music education opportunities to neighborhood youth in American roots music. The project served hundreds of youth in local St. Louis and St. Louis County neighborhoods through individual lessons, small ensemble creations, summer camps, summer academies, in-school residencies and school visits.
They’ve recorded four CD’s of American roots music combining student talents with local music artists.
“Rockabilly Rebellion” is a collaboration of Strings Attached students from the Ferguson/Florissant area and adult St. Louis musicians, including vocalists Mat and ‘Lil Rachel Wilson (Loot Rock Gang,) Adam Hoskins & Joey Glynn (Pokey LaFarge band) Doug Foehner & Vince Corkery. The recordings were produced in studio sessions at Native Sound in the Cherokee Arts District by engineer and drummer, Ben Majchrzak.
Songs recorded include 1950’s rockabilly-era classics by Carl Perkins, Elvis, Santo & Johnny and Les Paul.
