The Shook Twins Premiere New Song “Mad Scientist”
Living a life of simplicity isn’t always an easy task, particularly with regard to the uniquely modern problems sometimes created by technology. It’s possible, though, as detailed in a new song by the Shook Twins.
“Mad Scientist” tells the tale of a real-life luthier who (literally and figuratively) carves out a simple life of his own. The track’s arrangement mirrors its subject matter, with simple acoustic instrumentation providing a rolling backdrop atop which Katelyn and Laurie Shook craft delicate harmonies and captivating melodies.
“’Mad Scientist’ is a song written by our friend Vance Bergeson who lives on a mountain in north Idaho and makes guitars from local trees,” Laurie Shook says. “We heard him play it at an open mic 13 years ago, and have been playing it ever since. It’s a beautiful song about being a small time luthier and a farmer, and holding on to the simple things in this life. His words make us think of home, and dirt, and the amazing, hard-working, good people in our lives.”
“Mad Scientist” is off a forthcoming new EP from the sisters, currently slated for a November release. Listen to the new tune below.
