Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week: Kim Richey and The Posies
With the holidays over, things are starting to pick back up in the crowdfunding world. There’s an abundance of both new music and classic re-issues on offer. We have both in this week’s edition of Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week, with a new release from Kim Richey and another Omnivore Records re-issue, this time of ’90s power pop group The Posies.
Five years is a long time to wait for a new album from Kim Richey. But the wait will be over in March as Yep Roc Records will release Richey’s newest, Edgeland. For Edgeland, Richey paired with producer Brad Jones. The album will also feature collaborations with Chuck Prophet, Robyn Hitchcock, Pat Sansone, Gareth Dunlop, and Pat McLaughlin. Backer rewards available on PledgeMusic include a signed copy of the album on both CD and vinyl, signed prints of Richey’s photography, and postcards from Richey as she embarks on her East Coast tour in the spring.
The Posies- Three Classic Albums from Omnivore
Because The Posies formed in Washington and came to prominence in the early ’90s, they tend to get lumped in with the Seattle grunge/alternative rock movement. But The Posies’ brand of power pop always hewed closer to bands like The Hollies or Cheap Trick than to bands like Pearl Jam or Nirvana. Now the band is teaming with the folks at Omnivore Recordings to re-issue three of their classic-era albums. On the band’s 30th birthday, Omnivore will release Dear 23, Frosting on the Beater, and Amazing Disgrace on CD and vinyl. The vinyl editions will only be the albums in their original form, while the CD edition will feature a bonus disc of outtakes, many of which have never been released previously. You can get the albums individually or as a box set. Other backer rewards include a voicemail from the band, Skype lessons on the instrument of your choice, or a house concert.
