Charly Fasano and Lucero – Retrospect/ed

Monday, September 29, 2014, will see the release of the second joint-effort from Denver, Colorado-based poet/artist Charly Fasano, and Memphis mainstays Lucero — a 7” vinyl and accompanying book titled Retrospect/ed. The record features Fasano reading his poems “Gasoline Fumes” and “Teddyʼs Bowling Alley” to the music of Lucero, specifically Brian Venable and Rick Steff, with Roy Berry co-producing. The book contains 22 linocut block prints as well as QR codes for two movies that illustrate and complement the poems.
Iʼm happy to say I have one of these on order and was lucky enough to get my hands on the mp3 download for review. As a long-time fan of poetry, prose, and spoken word, the prospect of this offering excited me. This was my first exposure to Charly Fasano, and heʼs definitely a lyrical genius. Itʼs great to hear yet another facet of creativity from the boys of Lucero, as well. Venable and Steffʼs soulful wizardry provides a perfect backdrop for Fasanoʼs compelling, poignant, and at times humorous narratives of memory and change. I canʼt wait to see the whole package.
Retrospect/ed will be available as an illustrated book with a hand-numbered 7” vinyl (limited to 500), a hand-pulled block print, and an mp3 download code with bonus tracks of Fasano and Luceroʼs first EP (which is insanely good). There will also be a pocket edition book that includes the mp3 download code, but no 7”. So, kiddies, do the right thing and be the first on your block to get one – youʼll be glad you did.
Retrospect/ed will be available on September 29, 2014 at:
