Amy Speace – Songs For Bright Street
Amy Speace has one of those fetching voices, the kind that taps you on the shoulder and motions seductively for you to follow it around corner after dark corner. You dont know where youre going to end up or how youll ever find your way back, but that doesnt matter right now: youre enjoying the trip. On her sophomore disc, Speace, a singer-songwriter from Jersey City, New Jersey, genre-hops her way through catchy pop-rock, earnest folk music, foot-stomping soul numbers, and some twangy country. You really have to hear for yourself the country-ballroom version of Blondies Dreaming to believe such a thing could work. Speaces lovely duets with Gary Louris (Two) and Cliff Eberhardt (Row Row Row) are among the discs best tunes. Pop veteran James Mastro (Bongos, Health & Happiness Show) plays some sweet guitar and holds it all together as producer.
