3AM. The soulful collection of songs showcase Small’s outstanding vocal work and displays multiple impressive instrumental arrangements throughout.
3AM shows Small taking the reigns as both a performer and a songwriter. She bares her heart and soul, and pours every bit of her emotions into her work.
“Don’t make me beg for your attention/I’m so tired of asking for just a little bit of your time,” Small croons passionately. You can feel her pain and inevitable misery that accompanies one at the end of a relationship in “Attention.”
The album’s title track, “3AM,” also sets a very personal tone for Small. She chronicles a traumatic break up and the song follows her journey of healing and coming to terms with the loss.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt, 3AM displays Small’s flawless musical talent and penchant for evocative songwriting. The album is without a doubt an emotional rollercoaster, but in the end displays her vulnerability with a genuine feel that is hard to imitate. Well done, Kira.
