Brian Dolzani’s Unshakeable Feel
The eternal travelling troubadour, Brian Dolzani’s dedication to purpose finds him plying his craft on the road a good portion of the year, singing songs that affirm his honesty and integrity. His latest effort, A Place That I can Feel, affirms that integral and intimate relationship with his craft, ten songs that probe the psyche of everyone attempting to cope with these difficult times. The songs are straight forward and yet affecting, and even the titles themselves (“Am I OK,” “I Belong,” “How Long” “Keep Our Ears to the Ground”) reflect that search for a sense of stability. There are echoes of others of others at times — via the palatable longing of Neil Young in “Ocean Life,” John Lennon’s tangled musings in the simple, straight ahead piano ballad “Something New” — but regardless, Dolzani’s sincerity and determination ensure that each of these songs express a certain personality and poignancy. “Crooked Road,” “Keep Our Ears to the Ground” and “North of Santa Barbara,” all whimsical travelogues flush with upward observations, effectively sum up both the joys and deliberation inherent in his road warrior existence. “I’m finding out what it means to be free,” he sings on the latter as those final notes fade away, as each become a requiem for a life lived in search of a song. An affecting effort that rings with honesty, conviction and songs that ingrain themselves through one emotional encounter after another, A Place That I Can Feel is a heartfelt and humbling experience for both the artist and its audience. You will be moved… and rightfully so.
