Americana in the Faroes
One of the great joys of Americana is that as well as being so many things to so many people, it can be found pretty much anywhere. Think British blues, Australian country or Czech jazz. So it is with great pleasure that I recently came across the following performance from Teitur who hails from the Faroe Islands.
For those of you not familiar with said islands, they are a self-governing part of the kingdom of Denmark with a population of less than 50,000. They are roughly equidistant between Norway, Scotland and Iceland. Think Viking outpost and you get the idea.
A lot of what Teitur (pronounced tie -tor) has done previously appears to be indie folk. But this gig has a decided country lilt to it. It was also recorded in Torshavn, the capital of the Faroes which is said to be one of the smallest in the world (so now you know). Anyway, the song is pretty good and the video is rather beautiful and shows off the Faroes. Enjoy.
