With the sunlight filtering through the trees, I climbed out of my tent to begin yet another day in a world they call paradise. Glitter was smeared all over my skin from the previous night’s carnival. Umphrey’s was still ringing in my ears. Glow sticks littered the campsite. I stretched my sore muscles and twisted from side to side to shake off the remainder of my slumber.
My eyes floated around tent city to see a handful of other early risers tiptoeing about the crowded ranks of campers. Some were already heading over to early morning yoga, some searched for any sort of drink near in order to re-hydrate and others threw blankets over their tents to block out sunlight in hopes of gaining a couple more hours of sleep.
I looked down at my dirt stained feet and smiled. Sleep won’t last long, even for the “late-bloomers.” In a place where every note is worth hearing, sleep is a luxury that can be postponed. No one wants to be that person who slept through a groundbreaking set from a band yet to be discovered. Veteran festival goers know it’s impossible to see it all. Even if you trek from stage to stage all day long, taking in as many bands as possible.
Taking a deep breath in of sweet Arkansas air, I knew I was at home with 25 thousand of my closest friends, replenishing my soul with nature and the best live music one will ever experience. I grabbed a bottle of water and headed to yoga myself to kick-start my day. Already daydreaming about the artist line-up that would follow.
